This is a custom-sized component for a watch band designed to improve the fit for my wrist. My girlfriend’s father gave me this watch, and when I tried to size it for my wrist I could not find a comfortable length - one link would take it from too tight to too loose.
I reverse-engineered the link interfaces, modeled an intermediate sized link, and printed prototypes in SLA at work. Once I was happy with the fit, I had Shapeways manufacture the part in sterling silver as that was the only material that met both my strength and fine detail requirements. Once I received the part from Shapeways, I drilled and filed it to a final fit.
