Rollerblading Bag Buckle

My upgraded buckle allows me to interface with the hardware on the bag while providng a configuration with more stability for skating

The anchor for the additional webbing was sewn into the lining of the bag

The extra strap stores fairly neatly on the bag when not in use

Improving something great

During the hot Boston summers, I took to carrying items that I normally kept in my pockets in an over-the-shoulder bag. I loved the size and ease of use, but as I began to get into my new hobby of rollerblading, the limitations of a single strap design became apparent.

Executing quick turns brought the bag away from my body, throwing me off-balance and increasing the chance of a fall. I decided to add another strap to my bag that would allow me to better secure it to my body when rollerblading, but that wouldn’t affect the functionality of the bag during day-to-day use.

I traced a photo of the buckle in Solidworks to reverse engineer the closure mechanism and add my own features

I modeled the elements of the buckle interlocked so I could check fits on the fly

Shuffling the bodies around (with a refrence sketch) allowed me to tweak the angle of each strap for optimum comfort

The blank space in the center of the buckle was unappealing, so I designed a logo to fill the space
